Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU) experienced multiple power outages throughout our service territory that affected approximately 1,100 customers on the afternoon of Sunday, May 17th. A downed tree caused a feeder lockout for the majority of the affected customers, which was restored quickly. The remaining outages were scattered and more complex involving many downed lines, broken poles, and tangled trees. As of Monday afternoon, most customers are back in power, the remaining few needing additional work before a reconnection can be made. While the actual outage work is nearly complete, there is significant follow-up needed throughout our service territory related to trees near lines, etc. This will continue to be worked on throughout the week.
We appreciate the help of emergency services who kept many scenes safe until crews arrived, as well as the help of line crews from the Village of Gresham and New London Utilities. We strive to provide reliable service and are proud to be your public power utility. We appreciate our customers’ patience while we worked safely through restoration.
