Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU) experienced a power outage that affected approximately 4,500 customers late Tuesday, April 29th into early morning Wednesday, April 30th. A raccoon got into a substation causing the transmission breakers to open, which caused the outage. Electric Distribution staff worked with American Transmission Company to be able to close the breakers and resolve the outage.
Additionally, the interruption on the electric distribution system resulted in one of the power plant boilers tripping offline, resulting in a release of steam from the plant as designed. Power plant staff worked to resolve the issues and placed the unit back online.
We strive to provide reliable service and are proud to be your public power utility. We appreciate our customers’ patience while we worked safely through restoration.
