Manitowoc Public Utilities is seeking candidates for the following full-time positions:
This is a position in the Power Plant and involves duties related to the maintenance and repair of Power Plant and Water Utility machinery and equipment along with general utility-wide maintenance activities, to maintain the efficient operation of the Utilities. Due to the diverse nature of this position, the candidate will be required to have, or be able to develop, the necessary construction, maintenance, and equipment operating skills to enable the work to be performed in a consistent, safe and efficient manner. Work assignments arise as a result of breakdowns, inspections, operating conditions, new construction and planned maintenance activities. Tools utilized in this position will range from hand tools to electronic diagnostic, monitoring and measuring equipment. The person in this position will, at times, direct the work of others, and may be required to direct major projects or outages with minimal direct supervision, and be responsible for overall job safety, quality and schedule. Requirements for this position also include positive work habits, demonstration of leadership qualities and good judgment, good physical condition, strong mechanical aptitude, and the desire to progress. This position is non-exempt and is supervised by the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor. Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: mechanical aptitude along with a thorough knowledge of the mechanical maintenance, installation, operation, and repair procedures of equipment used in the electric generating plants, water filtration plant, and other Utility related facilities. A minimum of five (5) years of experience is desired. Two-year college degree in mechanical maintenance field is preferred, or maintenance mechanic journeyman status, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills and abilities may be considered.

The minimum requirements for this position include high school diploma, strong mechanical background and excellent physical condition. Technical degree or applicable power plant experience is preferred. This position is required to work a rotating shift. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to progress to the positions of boiler and turbine operator.

This position primarily involves duties that include monitor, operate, and maintain water and wastewater facilities, distribution, and collection systems; schedule and perform routine preventive maintenance on all plant equipment; record and maintain computerized service records for all plant equipment; occasionally respond to water and sewer calls/alarms; collect water and wastewater samples; and perform other operation and maintenance tasks as assigned. Minimum qualifications to apply include a high school diploma or GED, demonstrated mechanical ability in equipment maintenance, the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job. Applicants not WDNR certified will need to become certified with the below subclasses within 2 years. Preferred qualifications include an associate’s degree in water/wastewater technology; experience in water and wastewater plant operations; experience in machinery and pump maintenance; possess a WDNR Water Operator License for G, D and Z subclasses; possess a WDNR Wastewater Operator License for A1, B, C, D, and L subclasses.
