About Us

Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU) is a municipality-owned electric and water utility serving approximately 17,800 accounts in the City of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Utility employs approximately 85 full time employees.

The Utility is directed by a General Manager, who in turn reports to the Public Utility Commission. This Commission is comprised of seven members:

  • The Mayor of Manitowoc
  • A member of the Finance Committee
  • And five appointed citizens

Fiber Facilities

Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU) installed a 33 mile fiber optic ring around the City of Manitowoc in 2004.

MPU History

The origins of Manitowoc Public Utilities date back to 1889, just ten years after the incandescent electric light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison.

Strategic Plan

MPU is pleased to share with you our five year Strategic Plan!  The 2019 - 2023 plan builds upon the successes of prior plans with continued focus on reliability, organizational development, fiscal responsibility, stakeholder relationships, adoption of new technologies as appropriate and monitoring key industry changes.  In addition, this plan is designed to proactively identify and address the challenges and opportunities of utility industry trends so that MPU will be the community owned trusted advisor to our customers and stakeholders.
