MPU to Flush Water Mains

Manitowoc Public Utilities will be flushing water mains in the City over the next two weeks. South-side mains will be flushed on Tuesday, September 30 through Friday, October 3. North-side flushing will be performed on Tuesday, October 7 through Friday, October 10. The hours of flushing each day will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Flushing may cause water to temporarily appear dirty or rusty, however it will still be safe for consumption. Residents should avoid laundering clothes during this time to prevent possible staining.

Once the mains have been flushed in a particular area, it may take several hours for water to run clear. Letting a cold water tap run will help flush the lines inside the home.

MPU performs water main flushing every two years for the purpose of removing scale and mineral deposits, which build up over time. Flushing helps prolong the life expectancy of water mains, and also ensures adequate flow and pressure for consumption and fire protection. Residents having questions or concerns can call MPU at 683-4600.
