About Us

Manitowoc Public Utilities (MPU) is a municipality-owned electric and water utility serving approximately 16,400 accounts in the City of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Utility employs approximately 100 full time employees. About 70 of the full time employees are represented by Local No. 317 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

The Utility is directed by a General Manager, who in turn reports to the Public Utility Commission. This Commission is comprised of seven members:

  • The Mayor of Manitowoc
  • The City Council chair of the Public Utility and Licensing Committee
  • And five appointed citizens
