Have you ever wondered how much that old refrigerator in the basement costs each month to operate? How about the dehumidifier that runs nonstop from June to September? It's easy to find out by borrowing a portable energy meter from Manitowoc Public Utilities or the Manitowoc Public Library.

The meter simply plugs into a wall outlet, and the user plugs the appliance they want checked into the meter. The device measures electricity consumed over a period of time, allowing the user to estimate the cost of operation over a month or year.

Library patrons should visit the resource desk to check out an Energy Line Logger. MPU customers can ask to borrow a meter at the business office.
